This classically styled cone by Marcel Boucher was designed and manufactured in the late 1950s. Plated in shiny rhodium, its classy style can be worn during the daytime into evening activities. It invites tucking a single flower- an orchid?- into its basket.
Young Marcel Boucher learned most of his jeweler's craft in Paris and emigrated to New York City in 1927 where he worked with and learned the craft of Cartier. He is noted for his flowing lines and inventfulness. During the Great Depression, like many jewelers, he moved to the Mazer Brothers company to make more affordable costume jewelry. One who gets to know his style, can tell which pieces he designed or influenced for the company. In 1937, Boucher formed his own company. Like the jewelers of fine pieces, he chose to sign and number his pieces. This brooch, numbered 6732, places it squarely in the mid-fifties. He is known for his quality construction and materials as well as his original designs.
