The MA-1 was introduced in the early 1950s and officially adopted in the mid-1950s.
Until then, the B-15 series, which was used in the intermediate zone (10°C to 10°C), was adopted. However, in 1947, the U.S. ARMY AIR FORCES was disbanded, and the U.S. AIR FORCE was officially established as an independent entity. At the same time, military aircraft shifted from propeller-driven aircraft to jet aircraft.
As it became possible to fly at speeds exceeding 1,000 km/h, it became necessary to review aviation equipment, and the thin leather headgear was replaced with hard helmets.
However, the large collar interfered with the helmet, so it was changed from a large mouton collar to a rib-knit collar.
From this background, the MA-1 became a rib-knit jacket and appeared as a new type of flight jacket.
This is the early model (MIL-1-8279).
Faithfully reproduces the details only found in the early models, such as the ICS loop (intercom device), oxygen tab, and inner pocket on both sides!!
